Don Quarrie had a lengthy sprinting career through the 1970s and well into the 1980s. Quarrie won Olympic 200m gold in 1976, when he also won 100m silver.
He won 200m bronze in 1980 and was a member of Jamaica's 4x100m Olympic silver medal winning team in 1984.
Quarrie won six Commonwealth Games golds between 1970 and 1978 - five in individual events and one on the sprint relay.
Frank Shorter won Olympic marathon gold in 1972 and silver in 1976. His 1972 win is widely credited with igniting the running boom in the United States.

He won silver in the 1991 World Championships and bronze in '95.
He won Commonwealth gold in 1990 and 1994, and had tremendous longevity in this challenging event, as his '98 Commonwealth bronze attests.
