My Story 17 - Oregon Track Club Ribbons
Oregon Track Club Ribbons
The Oregon Track Club road runs and summer all-comers meets were part and parcel of my running experience in Eugene.
However, sometimes we were running in tough company!
After the US Olympic Trials in 1972, there were a lot of Olympians hanging around who were looking for a good race.
I ran a PR for the two-mile and finished 6th, and hoped for a ribbon (top 5) based on what I thought was the likelihood that one or more of the runners ahead of me was in an older age group.
Nope!
Steve Savage and Kenny Moore were among those showing me their heels that day.
How often do you face two Olympians in an all-comers meet?
Only in Eugene.
