When I met Shorter at the Legends of Gold Banquet in Edmonton in 2001 and I made reference to having met him at the Diet Pepsi race, he said, "Oh, No! My PW - personal worst!"

He was injured and not at full strength; he was running to fulfill an obligation to a sponsor.
