Programs 56 - 1980 US Olympic Track+Field Trials
The track team that went nowhere.
The 1980 US Olympic Track and Field team was not allowed to compete at the Moscow Olympics.
The reason? President Jimmy Carter gave the Soviet Union a February 20, 1980, deadline for withdrawing their troops from Afghanistan. The Soviet Union did not meet this deadline and the boycott was on.
The Soviet Union, in turn, boycotted the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
The 1976 Montreal Olympic Games were boycotted by many African countries over the issue of apartheid in South Africa.
