I was born in Boston on March 5, 1952, at Richardson House, which is part of the expansive Mass General Hospital complex.

Five weeks later we moved, and that set the tone for my childhood. I never went to school for more than two  years in a row until I went to a boarding school - the Athenian School in Danville, CA - for high school.

I returned to my Massachusetts roots when I attended Hampshire College in its very first year, 1970-71.
