One of the highlights of my writing experiences was being in Doha for the 2019 World Championships at the same time as the University of Oregon track and field journalism class.

The class is the inspiration of Professor Lori Shontz. The students do a great deal of advance work lining up publishers for their work, usually in small and medium sized markets.

I've watched Shontz and her class at work for several years, with increasing appreciation for and admiration of the work Shontz does. To say that she is training the track and field writers of the future is not hyperbole.

A remarkable 87% of her graduates have found work in their field.
