The three-mile and six-mile were run as a combined event, and it seemed quite odd to have Steve Prefontaine in neither.
The three-mile was won by Oregon's Randy James in 13:52.2, and miler Scott Daggatt (OR) was 2nd in 14:09.6.
The six-mile was won by Gerry Lindgren in a sparkling 27:30.8, with Kenny Moore (OTC) 2nd in 28:14.2, and Washington State's Dan Murphy 3rd in 28:30.0. Oregon's Pat Tyson was 4th in 28:34.0, with teammate Mark Savage 5th in 28:53.2.
The Eugene Register-Guard described this meet as "slighty sensational"!!!
