Well-known for its distance dominance, UTEP won with wins in the shot put and pole vault.

In fact, UTEP excelled in the throws: Hans Hogland won the shot put in 20.61/67 7 1/4", while Pete Farmer finished second in the weight throw at 20.85/68-5. 

Larry Jesse cleared 5.03/16-6 to win the pole vault, while UTEP's distance medley team took third, with Wilson Waigwa on the 3rd leg.

In high jump action, Oregon State's Mike Fleer upset Oregon State's Tom Woods as Fleer won on the countback, each having cleared 7-2/2.18. 

This just in: Villanova's distance medley quartet finished 5th, with Eamonn Coghlan on the third leg and John Hartnett on anchor. Go figure.
