In the greatest tie for 4th in track and field history, Tinker Hatfield and Craig Brigham both cleared 15-6 before going on to, respectively, design the Afro Duck as well as Air Jordans (Hatfield) and make the 1976 Olympic Team in the decathlon at home at Historic Hayward Field (Brigham).
Oregon State's Hailu Ebba ran unattached and won the 880 in 1:49.7. Interesting that Ebba, who had so many dramatic races with his friend, Pre, should have been present for Pre's last race.
