Frank Shorter returned to Hayward Field one week after Pre's passing and won the three-mile.

As Shorter warmed down after the race, I approached him and handed him an envelope containing a copy of the photo I had taken of him and Pre one week earlier - #1, above.

15 years later, when I reintroduced myself to him at the Legends of Gold Banquet at the 2001 Edmonton World Championships, Shorter gasped when I made reference to the photo.

"YOU gave me that photo?!" he exclaimed!

"It means so much to me to have it to this day."

Note to Mr. Shorter: It means so much to me that you have it to this day.
