Meet highlights
Henry Marsh set the American record in the steeplechase at 8:15.68. Carl Schuler also took down an American record with his 3:59:34 50k walk.
Tony Sandoval returned to the scene of his greatest disappointment - his 1976 4th place finish in the marathon - to win this time, in 2:10:19. Quite rough that he still was not able to run in the Olympics.
Stellar distance times were recorded by Don Paige in the 800m in 1:44.53 (Track and Field News notes his unlikely splits of 52.3/52.2.) and by Craig Virgin in the 10,000m, which he won by over 12 seconds in 27:45.61.
Washington's Rod Ewaliko had a similarly dominating win in the javelin with his 291'0", a winning margin of over 15'.
It was a successful meet for Ducks as Tom Hintnaus won the pole vault (18' 4.5"), Pete Shmock won the shot put (68'4" - 20.83), and Mac Wilkins won the discus in 225'4" (68.68).

Karin Smith edged Kate Schmidt in the javelin 208'5"/63.54 to 207'4"/63.20.

Long jump - 8th in 20'4"w (6.20w) - East High School, St. Louis - Jackie Joyner
