Sid Sink set the American record of 8:26.4 in the steeplechase, with locals Mike Manley and Steve Savage 2nd and 3rd in 8:27.6 and 8:29.6, respectively, both also under the previous record.
Oregon's Kenny Moore set the meet record in the marathon of 2:16:48.6, with Frank Shorter 2nd in 2:17:44.6 and Herb Lorenz 3rd in 2:19:16.8.
Reynaldo Brown set the meet reord in the high jump at 7-3/2.21. Second was Pat Matzdorf (7-1 3/4/2.18), setting the stage for his legendary performance 8 days later in Berkeley, CA, when he set the world record of 7-6.25/2.29 in the US-USSR dual meet.
John Craft set a meet record in the triple jump of 54-7/16.64. Dave Smith finished second, just behind Craft in 54-5.5/16.60.
Ralph Mann set the meet record in the 440y hurdles of 49.3, just turning back Wesley Williams in the same time.
Arnie Robinson won the long jump with last jump heroics to turn back Oregon's Bouncy Moore, who had just taken the lead in his last jump (ER-G) - 8.20w to 8.04w; 26-10.75w to 26-4.5w.
