The original Cortez was designed by Blue Bowerman in the mid-1960s for Blue Ribbon Sports. This early pair shows that a new heel cup was a necessary adaptation made to prevent Achilles heel chafing and blistering.
Cranmer was a high school cross country runner in Hood River, Oregon. While Cranmer was uncertain as to the purchase date, he told me that he wore these in high school cross country running at Hood River High School. Cranmer graduated in 1973.
Jerry and his mother, Lucy, who was a dear friend of mine, ran the Vagabond Lodge in Hood River, Oregon.
Lucy and her husband started the business in 1954.
It is now known as Westcliff Lodge and is run by her grandson, Grant.
It was Lucy who named the street it is on Westcliff Drive.
