From the Facebook page of Sacramento podiatrist, Dr. Kevin Kirby: "Onitsuka Tiger X-Caliber GT Running Shoe: First Shoe with Dual Density Midsole for "Overpronation" "In 1982, Onitsuka Tiger (now Asics) shoe company introduced a new concept in running shoes with a shoe called the X-Caliber GT.
The X-Caliber GT that had a high durometer "stabilizing pillar" embedded within the medial aspect of the rearfoot midsole of the running shoe. This was the first in a long line of "dual-density midsole" constuction running shoes that was intended to reduce "overpronation". Dual density midsoles are now commonly used in "stability" and "motion-control" running shoes even to this day."
