The shoes feature:
*a reduced heel lever
*front toe band for wear prevention
*cream-colored swooshes
*note the cut-by-hand swooshes
The V-shaped cut was a typical adaptation of early Nike shoes, which often were too tight across the lower part of the Achilles tendon.
(Note the 'next generation' heel adaptation in the Nike leather Cortez in Shoes #11.)
I hiked the Grand Canyon in these shoes in 1975.
I make a reasonable claim that these were the first waffles ever in the Grand Canyon.
As I took my campsite halfway up to the North Rim on the second day of my three-day hike, a woman came to my campsite looking at the ground, pointed at my shoes and demanded, "Show me the soles of your shoes!"
I knew she was talking about the pattern the waffles had made in the dust of the trail. She said she had never seen a shoe sole pattern like that before - and she was right!
These truly are moon shoes.
