My understanding is that it was non-varsity but highly skilled runners who were part of this team/club (often graduate students who no longer had varsity eligibility).

At least one of these Carson Striders team members ran in the 1971 AAU Cross Country Championships – and in the Bowerman Waffle Iron Shoes that are in the collection.
